About

Denita Stevens is a writer, speaker and mental health advocate who was born and raised in Texas, but now she resides in New Jersey with her beloved Pomeranian.  She is currently writing a memoir, “Disorderly Life” about living with undiagnosed PTSD for over a decade and how she finally found help and started to heal.   To hear her story watch the video from the 2018 This is My Brave Philadelphia show where she read her personal essay “Promises”

She is the author of “Invisible Veils”, a collection of poems which gives insight into what it’s like to live with anxiety, depression and survive the trauma of being sexually assaulted.  At times it meant being in constant crisis, struggling to stay alive and the inability to cope with any other issues in life.  These poems share the thoughts and feelings of those experiences and the process of healing. She shares her story to give hope to others so they’ll know it is possible to heal and thrive.

She also contributed the introductory poem, “Hope is the Lighthouse” for the book “Hope and Miracles: Stories that Inspire”, which is a collection of stories of individuals and families who have overcome personal adversity. They have triumphed in the face of troubles in mental health, illness and death.  100% of the proceeds from the sale of the book benefit the Hamilton, NJ nonprofit, Let There Be Health that supports people going through treatment for cancer and other illnesses.
